About Us

The seeds of Dementia Friendly Denton County were sown more than 15 years ago with the pioneering work of a group of dedicated volunteers and professionals. They formed Stepping Stones - a free, weekly occupational therapy based support group for persons with early to mid-stage dementia and their family caregivers. This grass roots effort brought to our community much needed meaningful activity for persons with dementia and practical guidance and support for those who cared for them.

In 2019 Stepping Stones joined forces with other social service agencies and Dementia Friendly America (DFA) to launch Dementia Friendly Denton County. DFA was organized in 2015 as a national network of communities seeking to ensure that all communities across America were equipped to support people living with dementia and their caregivers.

As a member of the national dementia friendly community, Dementia Friendly Denton County is committed to integrating Dementia Families into our community. We provide guidance, resource information and training to businesses, organizations, caregivers and persons diagnosed with dementia. Taken together, we are dedicated to making Denton County a welcoming and supportive community for dementia families.
